I think all of us fashion lovers have one of those pieces from childhood, living in the back of their head, that they desperately wanted to wear but it was out of reach for whatever reason. I actually have a few of those. The eighties were such an enticing decade for fashion and I was deemed too young to wear so many of the things I would lust for after seeing them on my favorite singer like Madonna, the girls from Bananarama or even my best friends older sister. I wasn’t much of an acid wash fan but the ruffled denim mini skirt was high on my list of things I wish I could wear because it would undoubtedly change my life. When I saw this little ruffled denim cutie on the Shopbop site I grabbed it right away. To be perfectly honest I had a hard time styling it without just going the band tee & ankle boots route so I went with another 80s mainstay: the Oxford shirt. A basic button down was something I was allowed to wear in the 80s and I had a lot of them usually from designer Ralph Lauren. I love the mixed media stripes and colors on this one offsetting the rocker vibe of the skirt.
I guess there are some benefits to getting older and as well as the cyclical nature of fashion, now go out there and live your childhood style dreams!!
