Never in a million years did I imagine that a fishing trip in the mountains would end up being one the of the best weekends ever! A small group of very lucky influencers, travel advisors and journalists were invited up to Big Bear – just about two hours from LA. – to experience the newly restored Hotel Marina Riviera. The hotel is perched right on the lake and recently underwent a gorgeous renovation complete with designer rooms, a fabulous restaurant and deck that gives sweeping views of the wate. As part of the weekend we got to participate in Big Bears highly anticipated annual fishing tournament: Fishin’ For 50k, where 5 tagged fish are worth $10,000 each. Now Ill admit, Im not much for fisher – as an animal lover its hard to see them struggle but I do love to be out on the water. We had an early sail scheduled so we were on the lake at 8:00 AM, Im not a morning person but it was a really beautiful time to be out there.

If youre like me you’re not super into fishing but still love the water, I highly recommend booking a  sunset sail on The Lady Liberty.  This boat tour glides around the lake, while the captain shares a bit of local history and points out some the gorgeous lake front homes and  yes, there is wine on board which makes things even more enjoyable.

One of the most unexpected highlights of the trip that was not scheduled? Dancing at Wyatt’s. One of the girls on the trip is a big country music fan and heard about this massive line dancing venue just down the road. We went to check it out and and much to our delight it was 80’s night which is defintiley more my speed! We had the best time singing, dancing and air guitaring our hearts out! It was the kind of spontaneous fun that makes a trip unforgettable.
