I have always loved the simplicity of a turtleneck sweater, while a definite nod to the 70’s, they are classic and timeless . Together with a black (faux) leather pencil skirt it has a sleek, elegant vibe that allows the accessories to be the focus: bright orange heels, bold sunglasses and a giant cocktail ring. I feel perfectly ready to slide into a smoky café to hear some poetry!

I was enamored by this skirt from the first time I saw it in J. Crew last spring. I decided against buying it because it would be hard to wear it again (and again…) due to the fact that the pattern is extremely recognizable! I found it on major sale over the holidays and could not resist snatching it up! As difficult (read: impossible) as it will be to disguise as a new item in the future, I do love how bold it is…I guess not everything is meant to be an investment piece.

I “borrowed” this green skirt from my mom’s closet several years back, and I happened to be wearing it when the whole blogging seed was planted in my head… I was grabbing a coffee at Intelligentsia, my favorite Silverlake coffee house, when a photographer asked if they could take a picture of me for their street style blog. I of course complied and decided then and there that I must start my own fashion blog! It took a couple of years but here we are. I have been wearing this skirt with some frequency since taking it from my mom, its not as flouncy as most of the midi skirts available now, I can actually wear it to get coffee…as for my mom, she doesn’t mind that I never returned the skirt as she is long over wearing this style!

I find living in a huge city like LA you have to make decisions fast. I’m specifically referring to clothing purchase decisions, back home if I found something I liked I had the luxury of taking some time to mull it over so that I wasn’t always making impulsive buys. Here when you find something you like you have to move fast because there will be 50 girls behind you ready to grab it! How many times have you come home with something and realized you already have a very similar item hanging in your closet? I really hate to return things so I’ve learned to do a quick mental inventory of my closet (and bank account) to make sure I’m the doing right thing, it doesn’t always work but I do try!
