Just a little over a year and a half ago I received an offer from a local medi-spa to come in for a Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage. At the time I had no idea what it was so I did a little research to see what I was getting myself into should I accept said offer. I was incredibly intrigued by the claims of what this treatment can do for you so I said yes and I was not disappointed. After a year of living through Covid restrictions I felt I needed something to kickstart a healthy lifestyle again so I reached out to Aline at Brazilian Body Bar for another detox massage.
What I learned not only through research but also from several personal experiences is that this is a truly remarkable treatment! To be clear I have tried both regular and Brazilian style lymphatic drainage massage and I found the Brazilian more enjoyable and far more effective. Both techniques use deep massage strokes to stimulate the lymph nodes and loosen fluids that are stuck in the tissue and between cells, encouraging natural drainage of the lymph nodes and eliminating toxins from the body. It also increases circulation reducing swelling and inflammation and creates a sculpted look pretty much immediately.
The Brazilian technique differs in that a suction machine is used to help break up bundles of fat that leads to a dimpled look ie. cellulite. This treatment involves a lot of prodding and touching areas some may not feel comfortable with so you have to go in expecting areas like your breasts, armpits and groin area to be prodded.
Note: The spa I go to does not do treatment on men so if you are male be sure to check first that they have someone willing to do this on a man.
With all the toxins being released from your body you can also expect to feel pretty groggy shortly after your first couple of treatments. I went home after my first and had the deepest two hour nap Ive ever experienced, so be sure to give yourself that time to relax afterwards, but also know that you will feel amazing later.
See the difference in the knees? Major reduction of fluid retention!
In addition to looking less bloated in my midsection, I also noticed improved digestion which flattens out the belly too. I tried on some swimsuits the next day and I was floored by how comfortable I felt in a two piece bikini. Some of the other benefits of this massage can be improved metabolism, weight loss, help with hormonal imbalance and enhanced elasticity of the skin.
I am scheduled to do a few more lymphatic drainage sessions, after which I will just do monthly upkeep. I really look forward to my treatments because not only is it super relaxing I look better, I feel better and knowing all of the benefits keeps me coming back for more! I hope a little look into this treatment was helpful and please let me know if you have any questions I’ll do my best to answer!

This is really fascinating! I dry brush weekly at home and have had ordinary lymphatic massages from a masseuse in the past but my results are dismal.
How long do the sessions last? What kind of after-care instructions (besides ‘take a nap’) are suggested? How many sessions do they recommend? How long do your results typically last? What’s the typical cost? (Sorry, I have a lot of questions! lol)

Hey Hannah! So after care is easy; no alcohol & lots of water for a few days after. My therapist suggests once per week for six weeks and then once per month thereafter for upkeep. I think $150-$200 per session is probably average. I absolutely LOVE it, I think its a wonderful treatment with noticeable effects. Let me know if I can help more, xo ~Zia

Thank you for the response! That all sounds very reasonable!
