The moment we stepped into the spectacular lobby of the Grand Velas Los Cabos we were absolutely captivated. We were handed warm towels and a glass of my favorite champagne, Veuve Cliquot, before getting a neck massage while overlooking the expansive pool deck and sparkling Sea of Cortez. Our luggage was taken to our room and check in was done without spending any time at the front desk. And from that moment there was never a moment of disappointment with the service, architecture, decor, food or any other detail at this remarkable resort!
Shortly after our mini massage we were taken to our 10th floor room which had an incredible view of the entire hotel grounds. The room was unbelievable spacious, beautifully designed and stocked to the brim with all the wine, coffee, snacks and fragrant body lotion one could hope for. Our ocean view from the massive terrace was glorious and we couldn’t resist but order in breakfast so we could enjoy it to the fullest. If it wasn’t so beautiful and warm outside we might have been tempted to just stay in our gorgeous suite and order room service the whole time.
I am a bonafide spa lover, I truly enjoy a great massage or facial (or both) and all the wonderful things that go long with it: the fruit infused water, the jacuzzi, the fragrant candles… I can without hesitation tell you that the spa at Grand Velas was the most impressive one I have ever experienced. The size of the facility itself is remarkable but the amenities are mind blowing! My treatment started with hydrotherapy in the massive pool surrounded by multiple jets that address different body parts starting with the back area going all way down to your toes. The jets are so strong that there are handles affixed to the wall so you can hold on tight while enjoying the intense, massage spray. Next I went from a dry sauna, to an ice room, to a blacked out steam room with nothing but twinkling ceiling lights to illuminate the space and finally a room with interspersed hot and cold rain showers. And all of this let up to my amazing Blue Agave Candle Massage… truly a relaxing and rejuvenating experience my only regret was that my husband waited too long to book his appointment and couldn’t get in to enjoy one too!
One of our seven courses at Cocino de Autor, which surprisingly accommodated my pescatarian diet!
The only thing I love more than clothes, travel and a good massage is food and wine or maybe a margarita or two! We definitely came to the right place for that. Grand Velas is all inclusive which usually isn’t something I lean toward because it more often then not means buffets but that is definitely not the case here. There are multiple top notch restaurants and the quality of the food is absolutely incredible. One of the on site restaurants, Cocina de Autor, is helmed by a Two Michelin Star chef. At poolside there is a cafe dedicated strictly to ceviche! Our first meal at Grand Velas was a four course ceviche lunch with a side of guacamole and a few salt rimmed margs, perfect way to start a Mexican holiday. One of my favorite meals was at Lucca the Italian restaurant where we just seemed to just keep ordering all the different risottos to sample. I wish we had stayed a bit longer to try Piaf the beautiful French Bistro (shown above) I couldn’t resist taking photos because it was so beautifully designed you truly felt as though you were transported to Paris!
Morning sail with Cabo Adventures which includes drinks, lunch, snorkeling and whale watching if you’re lucky!
There are three pools at Grand Velas los Cabos one is adults only but the others are family friendly and each has its own jacuzzi (and swim up bar) so there is no fear of overcrowding. If you, like myself, are not one to sit by the pool all day and need to get out and explore, the concierge is extremely helpful and can schedule all kinds of excursions for you: there are camel rides, horseback riding, ziplining etc . We chose to go sailing in hopes of catching a peek at some whales up close which we were lucky enough to do!
This marvelous little getaway to Grand Velas was truly a dream, it was exactly what we needed to decompress and reconnect. I can’t stop thinking about all the incredible little details that went into creating this incredible experience! Knowing it’s such a short flight from LA, we will definitely be doing it again very soon!
