I had a colleague recently tell me she believes I have a dark side lurking under my “sweet, polite exterior”…she is correct to a certain extent. When I slipped on this curve enhancing leopard print skirt wanting to escape the ubiquitous full-skirted, lady like silhouettes I’ve been wearing, I think I also proved my colleague right!

Feel the Heat
01.22.2014
The weather in Los Angeles continues to be blazing hot during the day causing me severe allergies and more importantly wildfires and one of the worst drought in years . It does, however, get quite chilly at night requiring creative layering if you leave the house in the morning and stay in the same outfit all day. I have a sleeveless blouse on underneath the crop top to keep the layers fairly light and a big bag to shove my jacket in when I’m feeling too warm. I think I speak for many in Southern CA when I say I hope for cooler temps and rain very soon!

Bright Lights
01.20.2014
I often get asked why I wear sunglasses in all my photos. One of the reasons is I feel they contribute to the outfit; the other reason being the extreme sensitivity my eyes have to bright light. I’m the one who always blinks when the flash goes off and in the case of my blog posts I always shoot outdoors. As you can see in these pictures, even while standing under giant pine trees I’m straining to keep my eyes open while facing the light. Having light sensitive eyes is not a fun trait to have for someone who spends as much time in front of a camera as I do, but I try to look at the positive: it’s a great excuse to have a giant collection of eyewear!

Lady of the Valley

FAUX LEATHER SKIRT: ASOS/ WHITE BLOUSE: JOE FRESH (BOUGHT IN CANADA)/ CASHMERE LEOPARD CARDIGAN: THIRFTED/ BELT: J. CREW (SIMILAR)/ BOOTIES: SOLE SOCIETY (ON SALE)/ SATCHEL: COACH (SMALLER VERSION)/ NECKLACE: JEWELMINT
Whenever I go home to visit I always make a point of hitting a Joe Fresh store. For inexpensive clothing it’s really well made and up until recently it wasn’t available in the U.S., I liked knowing I wouldn’t run into anyone else wearing the same thing. Admittedly I was little dismayed when J.C. Penney started to sell JF, however their collection is completely different from what they sell back home ~ so it’s still a bit of a novelty for me!
Hope everyone has fun plans for the weekend…we’re staying in and watching a marathon of awards season screeners, so many good films this year!

Freedom
01.16.2014
Still riding the high of my first, hopefully of many, feature in a national fashion magazine I thought an appropriate post would have me in a celebratory-cocktail-ready ensemble. The lace tights and patent pumps are very much inspired by the 80’s arguably my favorite fashion era…after the 70’s of course!
Always happy you dropped by, xx

Cold As Ice
01.13.2014
Where I come from this thing on my head is called a Toque. It’s derived from a French word so naturally it sounds fashionable (much more so than the utilitarian sounding “beanie”). Having grown up in Canada I was forced to wear them throughout the winter for utilitarian reasons, e.g. keeping my head warm in sub zero temperatures, rather than to look on trend. Call it whatever you like the knit cap has always been a staple in my winter wardrobe and I’m glad they actually have some fashion cred now! (did I just use the word “cred”??)
