California is such a stunningly beautiful and diverse state. There is no end to the options of places to escape to and we have made an effort to explore as much as possible the last few years visiting Big Sur, Yosemite, Ojai, Coronado Island and the list goes on! Whenever we have an opportunity to get out for a quick weekend getaway we always opt for something by the beach, ocean air is always therapeutic and there’s so much to do and see.
I fell in love with La Jolla, CA years ago drawn in by the beautiful aquamarine coves filled with sea lions and other ocean wildlife as well as the charming architecture, reminding me of the French Riviera. When the Hyatt Regency La Jolla reached out and asked if I would like to spend the weekend with them I immediately said Yes! We were in need of a couples only weekend and La Jolla is super romantic, close in proximity and full of great restaurants including Drift eat + drink which is right in the Hyatt.
We spent our first day wandering the shores and inhaling deep breaths of fresh allergen free air, then went back to our massive room and napped on a super comfy king bed. After a blissful nap we got all dressed up (because that’s what fashion lovers do) for dinner at Drift eat + drink which is a brand new restaurant on the main floor of the Hyatt. Its open, airy ambiance is very chic and the menu is fantastic!
We started out with handcrafted cocktails a fruity martini for me and Moscow Mule for the hubs. Dinner included shrimp ceviche, beet and melon & arugula salad and the Mac & cheese of the day which fortunately for us was filled with artichokes and spinach! So delicious and decadent!
We were so contently full after our amazing dinner we just went back to our deluxe newly remodeled suite and settled in for the night! (we were greeted by a fabulous gift basket, I was obsessed with locally made jalapeno cheddar popcorn)
After breakfast and mimosas at the hotel buffet we headed over to the pool for a little lounging but decided we needed to burn off some that rich, delicious food we had been eating and went for a coastal hike. If you haven’t heard, the wildflowers in CA are having a “Super-bloom” this year and they did not bypass La Jolla, the flowers on the cliffs we were hiking along were so magnificent we were inspired to hit the Carlsbad Flower Fields on our way home. The fields were only 20 minutes from the Hyatt and make for great photo ops!
My hubs and I had a super fun and relaxing time, getting away to recalibrate and reconnect is always as good idea and there is no better place to do it then La Jolla! x ~Zia
