Lake Tahoe: Living The Lake Life.

Another weekend another lake – California has so many to choose from so why not right? After living in California for 20+ years I finally made it to Tahoe two summers ago and instantly fell in love with everything about this stunning lakeside community (see post here) Theres so much to do here whether you’re into outdoor, adventure activity from boating, hiking & biking or if you like to keep things slow theres gambling, wine tasting or just curling up with a book on a deck overlooking the lake.

I am admittedly a major sucker for aquamarine waters and Lake Tahoe has some of the most beautiful water I’ve ever seen. Emerald Bay pictured above is a must while visiting the Tahoe area. If you can get there by boat I highly recommend coming in from the water side not just for the beautiful scenery but also because parking is typically a nightmare and you will have a long hike down to the beach.

Theres no end to the greenery in Tahoe  and the forest creates an amazing sense of privacy no matter where you are Bonus: the air constantly has that wonderful pine tree aroma!

My first time in Tahoe we stayed in an AirBnB in South Lake Tahoe, this time we stayed in Rubicon Bay on the West Shore. I love how low key it is on the west side its mostly private homes and private beaches and pictured here was our own little space on the sand. It truly felt private as there were very few people on the beach even on a holiday weekend.

The water was unbearably cold but I managed to climb onto my floatie without too much trouble for a little time on the water. You can see here just how crystal clear the waters are here – if you don’t have the benefit of a private beach I cant recommend Sand Harbor enough. We discovered it last time we were here and Im a little upset we didn’t make it this time, you truly feel like you’re in a tropical paradise – Major Bonus: they serve fruity cocktails you can take to the beach, yes its on the Nevada side! The home we rented for the weekend had the most stunning view of the lake – but you had to get up early to get this prime spot in front of the picture window for your morning coffee. I could stare at this view for hours!

We hit the hiking trails to Five Lakes and we were lucky enough to encounter some snow. It was so fun for the kids to be in snow one day and playing on the beach the next and this epitomizes the magic of Lake Tahoe where the beauty and diversity is endless. I hope you enjoyed this little trip to one of my favorite places in California – be sure to put it on your bucket list!
