Love for animals in our family runs very deep and we have enough of them to prove it: two cats, five fish, a fire bellied toad and our beloved Boston Terrier Stella round out our family of three humans. Keeping all our creatures healthy is important for a number of reasons, lower vet bills for one and keeping our pets alive as long as possible is of course the ultimate goal.

Our grey tabby Sharkie is almost 17 years old and he unfortunately suffers from colitis so his diet is particularly sensitive. Several months ago we decided to switch him over to grain free high protein food and noticed a major change in his demeanor, energy and appearance. After this remarkable change in Sharkie we decided to try changing Stellas food since she leans on the robust side and our other cat Ember, well she’s perfect but why not do what we can to keep her that way?

After doing some research to find the right food for our fur babies we came across a number of different pet food brands that fulfilled some of our criteria but did not check off all the points quite like Canidae Pet Foods. Canidae is an independently family owned company they only use high quality ingredients and they recently started growing ingredients for their pet food on their own farm. We love supporting small businesses, I feel that they put more care into their products and Canidae genuinely seems to love animals above all.

My cats never seemed to be particularly interested in food they just ate whatever dry food I gave them and went on with their daily activity of lounging and maybe chasing some bugs or birds in the backyard (my cats go outside but don’t leave the yard) When I started feeding them Canidae canned food (Catch Me if You Can with Crab is their favorite) they now circle around me every time I’m in the kitchen meowing for more!

Stella will get some of the canned food as an occasional treat but her main diet is the Under the Sun Grain Free with Whitefish dry food. Its its free of potato, wheat , corn, soy and other “fillers” which helps keep her weight down. Boston Terriers have a propensity for knee problems so we have to keep her as svelt as possible, not an easy task!

Spending a little extra money on high quality food really does pay off in the long run, all of our animals are on the mature side and still have tons of energy and look very youthful, aside from Sharkie’s colitis they’re all extremely healthy and only go to the vet for yearly vaccines… after all your body can only be as healthy as what you put in it!
