I have long struggled with growing my hair long due to the fact that my hair is very fine and I regularly get it highlighted. I was born a towhead but as I got older my hair got darker but I still identify as a blonde and feel best when my hair is lighter. I had extensions for several years but had them removed right before Covid which, in addition to not getting color, gave my hair a much needed break.
Although its been three years my hair still hasn’t made much progress in the length department. I had a hair colorist who severely damaged my hair two summers ago setting me back again, which was so frustrating. Every time I went in for a trim I got a severe hair chop because in the opinion of the stylists I “needed it” be that as it may it’s not what I wanted. I have since found a colorist who is very careful to not overlap my highlights, I no longer do a base color and only go in every 7-9 weeks. I also have a new person to cut my hair who actually listens to my wishes of only dusting the ends to keep them healthy enough to continue the quest for long hair. I have also over the years found several hair products that make a difference in the health, appearance and growth of my hair and I wanted to share them with you in case there are a few of you out there dealing with the same issues.
Hard water is a major problem in the Los Angeles area so we recently put in a T3 shower head filter which completely changes the feel of my hair – we’ll see if it helps with the health. I was introduced to the C Malibu hard water wellness products when I had extensions because the hard water actually turned them pink and this helped with the discoloration. Nutrafol is one of the most effective supplements I’ve used for hair growth as well as Vegamour hair serum. Having a good brush is essential to stimulating the scalp and preventing breakage I love this one from Raincry, I swear its worth spending the money on a quality hair brush. Silk scrunchies are the best for putting your hair up and wearing to bed at night I do a half up do for bed and sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce breakage. I also use Olaplex bonding oil or the Kerastase serum on my hair at night and wake up with silky smooth locks. K18 is by far the most effective leave on treatment that literally transforms my hair – it’s pricey but hair changing. Lastly my newest hair product obsession is IGK Antisocial hair bonding spray; this stuff is a miracle worker. I just spray it on after styling and it smooths my hair making it look shiny and healthy while it actually treats you hair.
Please let me know if you try any of these products and how they work for you and I’ll keep you posted on my growth progress – Im feeling very optimistic that this will be my year for the long, boho hair Ive been wanting!
